Interview Producer

Purpose:
To research and secure the most appropriate interviewees and guests for news and current affairs programmes, by utilising your extensive network of contacts and building and extending your contact lists, preparing factual research information and briefings for the Presenters.   

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an extensive and ‘up to date’ database of global contacts information, specifically Arabic speaking analysts, guests and subject matter experts.  

  • Research and secure the most appropriate interviewees and guests for news and current affairs programmes within budget 

  • Organise and prepare comprehensive background briefings for presenters, programme teams and other relevant team members 

  • Attend Editorial meetings and participate in informal discussions and contribute by offering creative, researched ideas and suggestions for guest and contributors  

  • Work collaboratively and closely with output, input, Planning and Satellite teams to ensure all necessary information is provided and communicated effectively, whilst ensuring all relevant details are entered into the systems 

  • Keep accurate records of your communications, interactions and transactions, including entering accurate costs associated with interviews, guest fees, transportation costs etc. which are within agreed budget.  

  • Greet and provide a very warm and professional welcome to guests and contributors to the studio/our office and ensure they are introduced to the appropriate production staff and make any other arrangements they may need prior to them leaving the studio/office e.g. transport, refreshments, information 

  • Working with the Production teams in the studio/gallery and ensure that live interviews/DTL’s/phones appear at the appropriate time in the programme, amending running orders as appropriate and with both accuracy and speed.   

  • To carry out the above duties and responsibilities in accordance with applicable legal obligations, including broadcast regulations specifically in accordance with the Ofcom Code. 

Essential:

  • Previous experience working as an Interview producer  or similar role within a dynamic news environment and demonstrating an impressive international contact list 

  • To be able to react immediately to breaking news ad providing best suitable guest for output  

  • Flexible, willing to assist colleagues and able to maintain composure, communicate professionally and demonstrate excellent problem solving skills  

  • Recent experience as a Journalist with a good understanding of production techniques 

  • Demonstrates an in depth knowledge and understanding of news and up to date current events in both the Arab world and internationally  

  • Excellent up to date knowledge of spoken and written modern standard Arabic as a first or equivalent language 

  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills 

  • An effective decision maker who demonstrates good judgement and commands credibility and respect from their colleagues

Full Time Position

Ingest TX Controller

Doha, Qatar - London, UK

Purpose: As an Ingest/TX Controller you will be responsible for the playlist continuity of Alaraby channels, making sure playlists are running smoothly, in close partnership with our Scheduling Dept.

TX/Playout is the final point of the broadcast chain prior to distribution, so those in transmission have ultimate control of the channel output. You should ensure that the Alaraby channels are ON AIR without interruption minimizing loss of broadcast services by rapidly identifying and implementing alternative methods to restore them.

You will handle the daily communication within the Playout (e.g. playlist deliveries/updates, live transmission preparation, graphic scheduling etc.).

You will also be responsible for reviewing all programmes and commercial content prior to broadcast (QC – quality control) and must ensure it meets with technical broadcast standards as well as rules set down by Alaraby. In addition, as Ingest controller, will be responsible for ingesting, previewing and verifying file transfers of on-air content to the main playout storage and remote stations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Processing daily schedules and investigating missing items, liaising with internal and external clients to obtain and process material as required
  • Ensure the modification of on air playlists as needed, including last minute changes, to ensure setup and execution of on air elements
  • Follow program log to ascertain when the program will be recorded and aired
  • React to automation warnings process
  • Monitor automated workflows using MAM platform, intervening as required for manual processes and dealing with exceptions requiring manual handling/processing
  • Maintain regular housekeeping of relevant systems, according to Alaraby standard operating procedures
  • Manage and respond to any technical issues performing emergency restoration procedures of the transmissions
  • Ingest, preview and verify file transfers of on-air content to multiple remote stations verifying and supplementing existing metadata
  • Transfer material from video server to archive
  • Supervise TX/RX feeds ensuring the on-air presence of the channels at all times and monitor all assigned station return feeds to ensure quality and continuity
  • Processing the required tasks (including broadcast file management, registration, QC and database administration) according to current priorities
  • QA and a video and audio spot check of HD/SD movies as well as spot check of promos
  • Communicating issues that may affect the output of any channel to relevant parties and reacting to any potential issues in an effective manner
  • A good understanding of IT networking infrastructures, file-based technologies and their implementation in a broadcast environment is preferable.
  • A keen interest in broadcast technology and enthusiasm and willingness to learn with positive attitude, flexibility and excellent relationships with colleagues at all levels, focusing on teamwork.
  • Ability to work without supervision and to handle responsibility. Work under pressure in a live news environment and availability to work on-call as needed, including evenings, overnights and weekends.

Qualification and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or relevant practical experience
  • Understanding of a live 24 hour broadcast environment
  • Understanding of Broadcast media server workflows – Ingest – Transcoding – Video Compression
  • Understanding of Ofcom guidelines
  • English Language, verbal and written skills in Arabic is desirable

Journalist

Primary Tasks:
Produce and support creative and engaging news material to an exceptionally high standard and assist in planning and producing next day or longer-term coverage news items. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Research, Write, translate and adapt items, news stories or programme material and to edit packages at the desktop
  • To keep up to date with main news stories and undertake background research and checking on factual information
  • To liaise closely with team colleagues provide effective coverage of stories and developments 
  • Flexible and prepared to take on any role required by the Editor or senior team members in response to the needs of the Newsroom (Input and Output)
  • Occasional deployment in the field for specific projects requiring technical expertise and editorial judgement
  • Manage a moving story, amending and updating material as required to build compelling and engaging news material
  • Present live or recorded TV slots and segments IF REQUIRED

Media Director and Vision Mixer

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead gallery crew in a highly dynamic LIVE and LIVE-to-tape environment.
  • Direct camera crew and floor managers to execute productions to the highest standards.
  • Direct multi-camera studio and on-location field productions.
  • Direct Productions across a variety of program genres, styles and formats.
  • Work closely with the editorial team to produce content requirements, design and execute visual treatments as per published running orders.
  • Effectively liaise and communicate with MCR and Broadcast TX on all transitions, handovers and countdowns.
  • Operate a large, complex Vision desk; cutting between sources as per established show formats independently.
  • Using the Vision mixer to optimise the outputs strengths.
  • Control inserts to the video wall.
  • Knowledge of how the Vision desk works and interacts with other equipment
  • Must be able to stay calm and react quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • All vision mixing requires high levels of concentration and stamina.
  • They must have the discipline to respond to cues accurately according to predetermined plans, and the confidence to take the initiative and deal autonomously with unforeseen circumstances or problems when they arise.
  • Communicate and work closely with show producers and editorial team members to execute pre-planned run-downs.

Essential skills required:
